Our approach:

Our goal is to help our clients reach a state of psychological wellbeing. People have described this state as « being ok with myself », «feeling competent», « making peace with my past », « feeling good in my own skin », or « having a better sense of what I want to do in the future ».

Any person can attain this sense of inner wellbeing, even when it might at times seem unattainable because you are trying to cope with a psychological disorder. Sometimes all it takes is a good conversation with a friend or a family member. Other times, turning to a psychologist can be more indicated, either because other people are not available, because you prefer to discuss things in a confidential setting, or because you feel that your difficulties go beyond the scope of what a family member or a friend can offer you.



How do we achieve this?

During a first consultation, we will determine together what goal(s) you want to achieve in therapy. You will have the opportunity to tell us about the issue(s) that bother you and ask questions about the psychotherapeutic method that we will employ. The initial consultation is a way for you to determine if you would like to engage in a therapeutic process.

We mostly use a cognitive-behavioral approach in our work, which is a goal-oriented form of psychotherapy that looks at how the person’s thoughts, feelings, and actions influence the difficulties that he/she is currently experiencing. Typically, therapy starts by spending some time to define the problem(s) at hand. Associated ideas, beliefs, emotions, and behaviors are then identified and evaluated, giving both you and the therapist a better understanding how thoughts, emotions, and actions influence each other. Finally, based on this knowledge, a plan of action is devised, which you will be able to implement.
